At Carbon Fiber 2015: The outlook for for low-cost carbon fiber

Zoom  Zoom Issue Date:2015-11-17   Browse:532
CompositesWorld's annual Carbon Fiber conference, Dec. 8-10 in Knoxville, TN, US, will feature a presentation from Dan Pichler, managing director of CarbConsult GmbH, titled, "How to Give the Market 'Affordable Carbon Fiber,'" which will explore the possibility of development of long-coveted low-cost carbon fiber.

Pichler will explore the entire value chain – from precursor, to carbon fiber, through intermediates, to CFRP components made of carbon fiber – to understand where the costs in the value chain are, how they build up, where and how can they be influenced, and, ultimately, how the industry can deliver the value proposition that end users are looking for.

The annual Carbon Fiber conference includes a pre-conference seminar on Dec. 8 covering carbon fiber supply and demand data, a tour of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (Oak Ridge, TN, US), a keynote presentation on the 777X composite wing program, and two days of presentations about design and fabrication of carbon fiber structures and parts.

The preconference seminar will be presented by Chris Red, principal of Composites Forecasts and Consulting LLC. The keynote will be given by Perry Moore, director — 777X Wing Operations at Boeing (Everett, WA, US). Moore, speaking for the first time publicly about the 777X wing program, will discuss the design, development and manufacture of the carbon fiber composite wing being produced for the forthcoming 777X.
