Pro Pel gets funds for solar roof

SOUTH DEERFIELD, MASS. (Jan. 6, 12:05 p.m. ET) -- Plastics recycler Pro Pel Plastech Inc. has received state backing to help finance a solar roof installation at its South Deerfield facility to cut costs and reduce the manufacturing footprint for its pellets.

MassDevelopment, Massachusetts’ finance and development agency, provided Pro Pel with a $758,460 loan from its Green Loan Program to design, buy and install a solar roof panel system. The state said in a Jan. 5 news release that Pro Pel expects to generate a quarter of its annual electricity from the solar panels, reduce utility expenses by 25 percent and create six jobs.

Pro Pel produces thermoplastic pellets from post-industrial and post-consumer plastics.

“We will now be manufacturing a green product with green energy,” said Vice President Joe Nickerson.
