Convenience Products, the manufacturer of Touch ‘n Seal insulating foams and sealants, has added Ignition Barrier Coating to their product line-up. Developed specifically to meet the strict test requirements of ICC AC377 Appendix X for Spray Polyurethane Foam, Touch ‘n Seal Ignition Barrier Coating is an intumescent, fire-retardant, latex-based coating. It acts as a shield over the substrate by covering the treated material with a protective char-barrier from the exposure or spread of flame. Applying Ignition Barrier Coating on top of spray polyurethane foam significantly increases the fire protection factor, according to the company's press release.
“Our new Ignition Barrier Coating is an ideal companion product to our foam insulation products,” said Michael Sites, Touch ‘n Seal Marketing Manager. “It’s an intumescent coating that expands and provides a tough char-barrier that slows down heat transfer and surface burning. This gives building occupants valuable extra time to evacuate a building in the event of a fire.”
Touch ‘n Seal Ignition Barrier Coating is an approved ignition barrier over foam and complies with International Building Code (IBC) and International Residential Code (IRC) per AC377 Appendix X. It is recommended for interior use in commercial and residential construction such as walls, attics, crawl spaces, lumber and foam insulation.
The Ignition Barrier Coating is available in 5-gallon pails. The primary application method is with an airless electronic sprayer; however, it can be successfully brushed or rolled on. Prior to application, the surface should be free from all deposits, including dust, dirt, oil, paint flakes scales, wax, etc, for the product to adhere properly to the substrate. Drying time for the barrier coating is 60 to 90 minutes, depending on ambient temperatures, and cure time is 24 hours. The latex-based formula cleans up with soap and water.
