Zoom  Zoom Issue Date:2015-10-28   Browse:519
CompositesWorld, publisher of CompositesWorld magazine and the CompositesWorld Weekly and EXTRA newsletters, has expanded the agenda for its Carbon Fiber 2015 conference, Dec. 8-10 at the Knoxville Convention Center in Knoxville, TN, US.

The conference has added a presentation by Eric Coleman, US general manager of DowAksa USA (Marietta, GA, US). Coleman's presentation will focus on the primary challenges facing the evolution of carbon fiber toward high-volume adoption for the transportation, infrastructure and energy markets. He will address the need to fulfill the value proposition of carbon fiber and the need to democratize carbon fiber composite use in the 21st century.

The conference includes a pre-conference seminar on Dec. 8 covering carbon fiber supply and demand data, a tour of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (Oak Ridge, TN, US), a keynote presentation on the 777X composite wing program, and two days of presentations about design and fabrication of carbon fiber structures and parts.

The preconference seminar will be presented by Chris Red, principal of Composites Forecasts and Consulting LLC. The keynote will be given by Perry Moore, director — 777X Wing Operations at Boeing (Everett, WA, US). Moore, who will discuss the design, development and manufacture of the carbon fiber composite wing being produced for the forthcoming 777X.

Topics covered in the conference include:

Carbon fiber in wind energy applications
Carbon fiber for automotive lightweighting
Affordable carbon fiber
Investment opportunities in automotive and aerospace
Carbon fiber recycling
Automated 3D preform fabrication
Carbon fiber and energy utilization
Atmospheric plasma for carbon fiber oxidation
