Mitsubishi Regional Jet moves closer to onset of flight testing with engine mounting process to begin next.

The wings for the first flight test aircraft of the Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ) have been mated with the fuselage at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ (MHI, Tokyo, Japan) final-assembly factory, known as the Komaki South Plant, Nagoya Aerospace Systems Works (Aichi Prefecture, Japan). The wing-body combination marks another major milestone toward MRJ’s completion.

The Mitsubishi Regional Jet is a family of 70 to 90-seat next-generation aircraft featuring the PurePower engine from Pratt & Whitney (East Hartford, Ct., USA) and state-of-the-art aerodynamics to reduce fuel consumption, noise, and emissions, while offering operational benefits such as an outstanding cabin designed for heightened passenger flying comfort, and large overhead bins.

Having received the PurePower PW1200G engine from Pratt & Whitney and engine pylons from Spirit AeroSystems (Wichita, Kan., USA), Mitsubishi Aircraft (subsidiary of MHI) will soon begin the engine-mounting process.

Mitsubishi Aircraft and MHI remain firmly committed to the success of the MRJ program as well as the growth of Japan’s aviation industry through strong partnerships with its suppliers worldwide.
