Johnson Controls Inc. has acquired full ownership of its seating operations in India along with its 11 facilities and 2,100 employees.
Tata Automotive Components of Pune, India, had been a 50-50 partner in Tata Johnson Controls previously, JCI noted in a May 28 news release. Working with Tata allowed Johnson Controls — with automotive operations based in Plymouth, Mich. — to build its base in India. Now it will build on that base, said Paul Chawla, president and CEO of Johnson Controls Automotive Experience India.
India is an important part of the company's global strategy, the company said. It is continuing to build up its expertise at its Technical Center in Pimpri and JCI plans to expand its prototype and testing capabilities in the region.
The companies did not disclose a purchase price or conditions for the change in ownership.
