City to flush fire hydrants next week

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus City Utilities will flush city fire hydrants from Sept. 12 to 15.

According to the agency, the hydrants must be flushed to remove iron and manganese sediments. The sediment can discolor clothing and the department recommends residents avoid doing laundry on the evening of the hydrant flushing and the next morning.

Motorists should use caution when approaching a flushing crew. Parents should keep their children from playing in the water.

Flushing will begin at 4 p.m. on the following schedule.

Sept. 12: West of Haw Creek to the White River and south of National Road to Water Street.

Sept. 13: East of Haw Creek to National Road and all of the city west of White River and Flatrock River including Woodside, Tipton Lakes and Brookside.

Sept. 14: East of Haw Creek and north of National Road including Everroad Park East, Flintwood and Hiker Trace.

Sept. 15: West of Haw Creek and north of National Road including Forest Park, Everroad Park West and Park Forest.
